Yesterday I wrote The Beauty Box for the Beauty of a Woman BlogFest. I have been moved by the writing of all the participants and hope you will take time to read what the women and men of the Beauty of a Woman BlogFest are saying about the concept of BEAUTY. What I find most interesting is we all seem to KNOW beauty can’t be bought yet an entire industry continues to thrive on selling us “beauty”.
Maybe this is a good time to revisit the Annenberg Space for Photography and their Beauty CULTure exhibit.
“Beauty CULTure provides a seminal examination of photography’s role in capturing and defining notions of modern female beauty and how these images profoundly influence our lives in both celebratory and disturbing ways.”

The magazines and companies who put beauty out there based on extreme makeups, body concerns)thin) extreme fashions do so much harm to women in their perception of how they think they need to look and to men who also think that women should look a certain way. These magazines are viciously protraying women as cartoons and not real women. There are more and more of these everyday who tell women how to get thin, how to look more beautfiul with makeup, how to do our hair like a stars hair. Why can’t there be a satisfaction with how real women look…not always thin, not always made up, certainly not always dressed like the magazines say it is necessary to dress. It’s all fake and demoralizing to women.
